What is Linux ??

Linux is an Operating System(OS) just like Windows 98/95. It is a free operating system and not from owned by any company unlike Windows...which is owned by Microsoft Corp. Though many companies sell wat are known as 'distributions'..which are nothing..but differently..packaged Linux OS.

What are the various Linux Distributions available?

There are many distributions available..each having its own advantages and disadvantages. Some of them are RedHat, Slackware, Debian,Suse, TurboLinux, Mandrake etc. Among them RedHat Linux is considered to be the best one, for the end-user. It is considered to be the most user-friendly of all distributions.
It can either be downloaded from their web-site,but thats not feasible if you have a 33.6/56K connection to the net, or it can be bought off-the-shelf.

What is the difference between Windows 9x and Linux?

Linux is an OS seperate from Windows 9x and having no relation watsoever with Windows 9x. That means that you cannot run Linux applications under Windows 9x or vice-versa. Though limited support for running Windows 9x applications is available on Linux.
Though you can still do the same work you do on Windoze under Linux also by using similar applications.

Can I run Linux under Windows 9x ??

No. Since Linux is an OS, it cannot be run under Windoze 9x. Though Linux and Windoze can exist on the same computer simultaneously, but can' b RUN simultaneously.
